“As we extend our hands and hearts toward others in Christlike love, something wonderful happens to us. Our own spirits become healed, more refined, and stronger. We become happier, more peaceful, and more receptive to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf

What’s a Catholic school without a little bit of singing, laughing, and reflection! Students at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford West Gwillimbury reconnected with God at the “When Faith Meets Pedagogy” conference on October 24th. Alongside other Catholic students across Canada, students embraced the opportunity to grow spiritually and individually.

The “When Faith Meets Pedagogy” conference is an event that brings students from different school boards across Canada together to learn more about what it means to be Catholic and to connect with others. Conference coordinators hope that after the day is over, students spread their renewed faith to others and vowed to“be God’s light for the world.” Throughout the day, there were influential speakers such as Father Rob Galea that asked the question: when were your eyes opened?

Father Rob Galea is a singer and songwriter who believes that music is an important instrument that helps people understand the need for intimacy with God. During his speech, he talked about his rough past with drug abuse and mental illness. His main point was that his past decisions do not define him and that he and others can grow away from that lifestyle with one tool: God. The combination of his moving speech and amazing songs had everyone in the room emotional.

The students from Holy Trinity left this year’s conference with a fresh outlook and inspiring energy about their personal faith journeys.
