End of Week 7
Published on Mar 29, 2019 18:13

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all the parents and students who came out to our parent-teacher interviews last night. It is nice to meet parents and spend a few moments chatting with you about your teen's progress. I hope you all enjoyed positive and productive meetings with the teachers. If you were unable to attend please feel free to call the teachers you wish to talk to or arrange a time to meet. Midterm Report Cards will go home the first week of May.

We also participated in the OSSLT on Wednesday. All grade 10's and some 11/12 students buckled down for the morning to complete the two booklets that make up the literacy test. Though it is nerve-wracking and stressful, I'm know our students did well thanks to the excellent preparatory work led by Mrs. Batt-Garrocho and Mrs. Nogalo. Classroom teachers, Special Education Teachers, Student Success Teachers and Guidance Teachers also played a huge role in ensuring students were ready to write. Results come out later in the spring so we'll be sure to let you know.

Coming up next week we have a couple of trips to the Simcoe County Museum. Check School-day for a notification if your teen is supposed to go on this trip. Remember you can still pay by cash/cheque as long as you complete the permission form and place a ticket order in School-Day. FYI we have saved thousands of dollars in copier costs by eliminating paper permission forms alone. As we move to include more activities and events into School-Day we will have more money available for student activities.

A special shout out to Mr. John Grogan who was recognized this week on our Board's Celebrating Staff web page. Mr. Grogan teaches English and Drama and has established himself as an outstanding contributor to our school community. If you would like to nominate a staff member, complete our Celebrating Staff Form

Since spring has sprung we know that many of you are eager to do some spring cleaning. If you have begun or will be in the future we encourage you to please hold on to any electronics, clothing or textiles that you way wish to throw away. Holy Trinity will be having a clothing drive as well as an e-waste bin at the beginning of May so that electronics, clothing or textiles do not end up in a landfill. Our goal is to collect 5,000 lbs of clothing (clothing, Belts and Accessories, Shoes and Boots, Jewelry, Bags and purses, Bedding and Linens) and textiles.

Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd, members of the social justice team visited homerooms today to encourage all students to honour Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue tops and uniform pants on April 2nd, as well how and where to donate to help research and those in need. Thanks for your support of our students with autism.

I hope everyone enjoys a restful and peaceful weekend.

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
