End of Week 4
Published on Mar 3, 2019 18:49

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the late delivery of this week's message -- some last minute matters on Friday prevented me from finishing it.

This week we were excited to have Karl Subban, father of 2 successful daughters (both teachers in the TDSB) and 3 successful sons (NHL players). He discussed his personal recipe for success, which has more to do with the kind of person you are than any level of material wealth or status you may achieve. His talk resonated with many students, and was an excellent culmination of our Black History Month celebrations.

Next week we have a couple of important days -- Pancake Tuesday, when everyone will be treated to delicious, home-made pancakes, and Ash Wednesday. We will be distributing the ashes during 4th period on Wednesday, so please be sure not to excuse your teen for the afternoon unless it is unavoidable.

Tuesday we also have an accident prevention assembly for grades 10, 11 and 12. This is geared toward students who drive (or will soon get their license).

We also have our Spring Spirit Assembly in Thursday (along with the distribution of Early Communication Letters). Students will be allowed to dress in their House Colours for the day to show their school spirit.

Friday is the last day before March Break, and students will have a wacky socks theme day. The brighter and more eye catching the better!

Our Curling Team is progressing to the GBSSA Championships this week! Well done to the students and coaches. This is our first-ever curling team so we're thrilled they have done so well their first year.

Our Spring sports are gearing up too, with baseball, softball, track & field, ultimate frisbee, girls soccer, and badminton. Thanks to all the athletes and coaches for making HT a vibrant school community!

Looking forward to seeing parents on Parent-Teacher Interview Night on March 28. Reminder that appointments are necessary and will be set up through School-Day. If you are unable to make it that night, please give your teen's teachers a call to arrange another time to chat, either in person or by phone.

All the best for what promises to be a chilly week!

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
