End of Week 3

Hi everyone

Thanks to everyone for their contributions to our Sock Drive. Homelessness is a serious problem in Canada, and each year over 235,000 people experience homelessness. We raised 690 pairs of socks that will be distributed to homeless people. For their efforts, our students have earned a special theme day next Friday. Details to follow from the Social Justice Club!

The next couple of weeks are pretty quiet around here, with students getting into the groove of their second semester courses. One special event taking place is a visit from Karl Subban, educator, motivational speaker and father of NHL players P.K. Subban, Malcolm Subban, and Jordan Subban. He will be speaking at a whole-school assembly Thursday. We look forward to hearing his inspirational message.

Congrats to our Curling Team as they will be travelling to Orillia for CSASC Championships. This is our first team and they've had an excellent season. Thanks to coaches Ben, Fabiano and Roque (no pun intended!) for their time and dedication.

Tuesday March 5 is Shrove Tuesday. We are planning a school-wide pancake breakfast for that morning. Wednesday the 6th is Ash Wednesday, and we will be holding a paraliturgy in the gym for distribution of ashes. This is an important day in the liturgical calendar, and a key component of our Catholic faith so please don't excuse your teen from school that afternoon.

We plan to send home Early Communication Letters on the 7th. We'll be back to the paper versions this go-around. The email experiment generally worked last semester but we still have some bugs to iron out before it can be a permanent delivery method. Please be sure to get your letter from your teen! Parent-teacher interviews will be March 28 from 5-8 pm by appointment through School-Day. Please note that appointment slots are available until 7:30 to allow some buffer time.

And then March Break begins! Students will have the week of March 11-15 off and the school will be closed. If you are travelling and expect your teen to miss school, please let Mrs. Belanger know as soon as possible. If you will be away for more than a week of classes, please have your teen pick up a temporary absence form. Thanks for your cooperation.

Let's hope March comes in next week like a lamb. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing weekend.

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
