End of Week 17
Published on Jan 11, 2019 18:11

Hi everyone

On behalf of the staff I wish you all a Happy New Year. We are excited to be back and heading into the final few days of semester 1. Lots of final assessment and evaluation activities are going on daily so please make sure your teen is attending on time daily.

There are some events of interest to parents coming up:

Building on the success of last year’s “Mental Health for Every Age” Parent Involvement Sessions, the Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) requested additional information sessions to be provided this year. These sessions will be held at 3 of our school locations:

- Tuesday, February 5, 2019 – Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School, Orillia
- Thursday, February 21, 2019 – Saint Joseph’s Catholic High School, Barrie
- Tuesday, February 26, 2019 – Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic Elementary School, Beeton

Click here to see the event flyer.

The time frame for these events will be from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, childcare and light refreshments will be provided.

Each event will feature a presentation by Dr. Patrick Carney, Mental Health Lead and members of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board Psychology Department.

These events are open to all parents.  Each of the dates have registration deadlines of one week prior to each event. Please register by following the link to the registration form.

A reminder that on Wednesday January 16th we will be holding a parent information evening for our Mission Trip to Ecuador taking place in May 2020. We have already had a number of parents and students express interest so please plan to attend.

Please let us know if you are coming by replying to this e-vite

Our Festival of the Arts is taking place on January 22 from 6-8 pm. This is a wonderful celebration of the artistic talents of our art, drama and music students. We look forward to seeing all parents come out for this exciting and fun night.

And of course, final exams are beginning on Thursday January 24. The exam schedule is as follows:

Per. 1 exam: Thursday January 24th at 8:55 am
Per. 2 exam: Friday January 25th at 8:55 am
Per. 3 exam: Monday January 28th at 8:55 am
Per. 4 exam: Tuesday January 29th at 8:55 am

Buses will run at their regular times on exam days, but students are free to leave as soon as their exam is complete. Students who choose to remain at school will be limited to the cafeteria for quiet study. Note that the cafeteria will not be open for food service on exam days.

In the event of bus cancellations due to weather on an exam day, we will push the schedule forward one day in order to maintain the exam order. For example, if buses are cancelled on January 24th, we will write the the period 1 exam on January 25th, the period 2 exam on the 28th, the period 3 exam on the 29th and the period 4 exam on the 29th. If inclement weather results in cancellations for two days, we will double up exams on one day rather than extend the exam schedule for another day. We will send e-mails out with clear instructions in the unlikely event that this happens.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

God bless

Brian McKenzie
