End of Week 9
Published on Nov 2, 2018 18:19

Hi everyone

I hope you've recovered from your Hallowe'en candy hangover. We had a fun day here with many students in costume, and many more in Hallowe'en colours. We also concluded our Thanksgiving Food Drive by raising over 700 items for the food bank. While this less than the 2 items per student we were hoping to get, it is still a helpful and generous donation on the part of our community, so thank you all very much.

Our Jr. Girls' Basketball team posted a perfect 6-0 season record, and made impressive showings in a number of tournaments (including winning the championship in Elmira). Yesterday they played in the CSASC Playoffs here at home against St. Theresa's before a huge crowd of students, staff and parents (and the marching band!). Our girls won a hard fought game and advance to the finals on Monday vs. Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School! Great work all season and congratulations to coaches D. Viveiros and Grogan.

A huge congratulations goes out to Holy Trinity's senior boys volleyball team on their convincing CSAC semi final win last night in our gym. A special thanks to the fans and family who were there to cheer the boys on and to Holy Trinity's Com. Tech. team who stayed to stream the game. We wish them best of luck on Tuesday as they travel to St. Joe's to play in the CSAC finals.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Bradford Branch, will be holding its Remembrance Day Parade this weekend Sunday, November 4th.  It will go from Shoppers Drug-mart through the middle of town and then turn at the Old Tim Horton's to proceed to the Legion. Start time will be 1pm and you are invited to come out and show that Bradford Remembers our Women and Men that served. Students from our D-Day Anniversary Trip Class will be marching as well.  We hope to see many of you there.

On a related topic, Mrs. Straney's History class is creating a Highway of Heroes project in the school. They will create profiles of all the soldiers from Bradford who died in service in WWI, WWII, Korea, and Afghanistan and hang them in the hallway for all students to see. This is a powerful and emotional reminder that many of those who died in wars were not much older than some of our students.

Also, our grade 10 History classes are visiting the Holocaust Museum in Toronto on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7. Be sure to have your School Day notifications turned on to get emails when sign up/payment is due.

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour tomorrow night as Daylight Savings Time officially ends. This means it will start getting dark earlier in the mornings and evenings until well after Christmas so please be sure your teens are more aware of their surroundings, especially if they are walkers. Think about getting reflective material for their winter coats so that they are more visible to drivers. The dark winter days can also take an emotional toll on people, so if you notice your teen is lethargic, irritable, restless or nervous, remember there may be an underlying cause and let us know. We have counselling support available.

We are making plans to offer weekly before/after school sessions on Christian Meditation. Please talk to your teens about the benefits and value of this excellent meditative practice. We will have more information about this in coming weeks as we work out the logistics.

Reminder that Term 2 starts Tuesday, which means our period order changes from 1,2,3,4 to 2,1,4,3. However, end of day attendance calls will still refer to the original Term 1 period order. So if your teen misses period 1, the call will still say period 2 and vice versa. I know it's a bit confusing so if you have any questions please call Mrs. Belanger, our attendance secretary.

We have our third PA Day coming up on November 16th. Here is a link to the agenda for the day. Teachers will continue the work begun on October 26th. Remind your teens about the importance of keeping up on homework, getting their volunteer hours done, and helping around the house.

All the best for the weekend!

God Bless
