End of Week 8
Published on Oct 26, 2018 18:06

Hi everyone

Hard to believe, but we've now been in school for 8 weeks, which is the same as the duration of summer vacation. Next week marks the end of Term 1, which means, as I mentioned last week, that Mid-Term Report Cards will be sent home. If you have concerns or questions about your teen's progress, please connect with the teachers as soon as possible.

Last weekend our Jr. Girls Basketball team travelled to Elmira to participate in a basketball tournament. Mr. Viveiros and Mr. Grogan coached the team to a Tournament Championship! Not only that but they finished their regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. Congratulations girls, and well done coaches!

A big thank you to Mr. MacGregor and his HRE4O class along with the Green Team for their school beautification work this fall. Over the past several weeks they have removed dead/dying trees, uprooted weeds and overgrown shrubs, and then ran it all through a wood chipper to make a nice bed of mulch for new gardens. Watch for our new Prayer Garden in the spring!

Note to grade 12 parents - we will be emailing information about Community Service Hours to parents of students who have not completed the mandatory 40 hours of community service required for graduation. There are specific timelines for completion so please read the letter carefully.

Wednesday November 7th some of our English students are travelling to Stratford to see a live theatre production of To Kill a Mockingbird. We know the students will enjoy the day experiencing live professional theatre.

Wednesday November 14th is Take Our Kids to Work Day for our Grade 9 students. Please assist your teen with finding a suitable work location for the day. They can come with you, a neighbour, relative, or friend.

Welcome back to Mrs. McDonald who was away for the month of October on a pilgrimage on El Camino de Santiago in Spain. This is an incredible faith experience, and we can't wait to hear her stories and see the pictures. Thank you to Mr. Feher who stepped in for Mrs. McDonald and kept things running smoothly in our Special Education department.

Friday November 9th we will observe Remembrance Day. Students are asked to wear red that day and contribute to the Poppy Campaign. All the proceeds go to the Royal Canadian Legion in support of our veterans.

November 9th is also the date of our semi-formal dinner dance, open to all students. Tickets are available through School Day and are going fast!

A reminder about final exams (yes, I'm talking about them already!): they are set for Jan. 24-30th. Please do not make travel arrangements or schedule appointments in the mornings of those days. Exams are a required component of every course worth up to 20% of a final grade. If you have unavoidable conflicts please call to discuss with Mr. MacFadden or me.

Finally, it looks like winter weather may visit us soon so be sure to listen to local radio stations, watch CTV Barrie, and/or follow the school Twitter feed (@Trinity_Tigers) for information about inclement weather bus cancellations. With luck we'll have a mild winter without a lot of issues.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
