End of Week 4
Published on Sep 29, 2018 12:53

Hi everyone,

Ok, so two weeks in a row late. I promise this won't become a habit!

We had a great PA Day yesterday discussing Health and Safety and Mental Health. I am very proud of the hard work our staff does on behalf of your teens every day. They are truly a special group.

A couple of corrections!

Parent-teacher Interview Night will take place Thursday, October 18th from 5 - 7:30 pm, not 5:30-7pm. Sorry for the mixup. Interviews are in five minute intervals by appointment through School Day. Please watch School Day for notifications.

  • Take Our Kids to Work Day for grade 9 students is Wednesday November 14th. Students can ask a family member, friend or neighbour to sponsor their placement for the day.
This past week our jr. boys soccer team participated in Hustle for A Cure, the annual soccer tournament organized by Mr. DeOliveira. It was once again a great success and it raised over $1800 for various organizations dedicated to treating and curing disease. We are very proud of our boys and Mr. DeOliveira for their commitment.

Our Social Justice group is currently completing its School Supplies Drive to support students who need assistance. Upcoming is our Thanksgiving Food Drive and Toiletries Drive. We will be participating in the Second Copper Cup, a co-ed hockey game pitting our students and BDHS students against the South Simcoe Police All-Stars in a charity hockey game. The food and personal hygiene items raised by both schools and the police will go to the Bradford Food Bank. Please give generously to support this event.

On October 17th (Wednesday), Mrs. Denise Tinney, Principal of Continuing Education, and Mrs. Theresa Noga-McArthur, Experiential Education Lead, will conduct an information evening for parents and students interested in learning more about our board's Travel Credits program. Students can take courses like Careers/Civics, Writer's Craft, History and others while travelling to destinations related to the course. Please discuss with your teen and plan to attend from 6- 8pm on Wednesday October 17th. For those of you who cannot make it, we will have brochures and information available on Parent-Teacher Night.

Thanksgiving Holiday is next Monday, October 8th, a good day for teens to get caught up on school work, house work and volunteer hours. As always, check with Mr. MacGregor for opportunities.

This coming Friday, October 5th, we will email Early Communication Letters. Please be sure to review these letters with your teens, particularly if their teachers have highlighted early concerns. Parent-Teacher Night is a good time to have a quick discussion about any issues, but if you need a more in-depth conversation please make an appointment to meet the teacher or have a phone conversation. You may also contact us to set up a a team meeting of all teachers, Student Success, and Guidance staff to troubleshoot and set up a plan for your teen if there are multiple concerns from teachers.

Wednesday October 10 is our grade 10 retreat day. Please be sure to complete the permission form in School Day and pay $5 for lunch.

And finally a reminder of who to contact if you have concerns:
  • For questions/concerns about academic issues in any class, contact the classroom teacher first. Most issues can be resolved by working collaboratively with the teacher.
  • For questions/concerns about course selections, academic programs, or counselling, please contact the Guidance Office at extension 185.
  • For questions/concerns about your teen's faith development, or about the integration of faith in our school life, contact Mr. MacGregor, our school Chaplain, at extension 159.
  • For questions/concerns about student discipline or school policies/procedures, contact Mr. MacFadden, Vice-principal, at extension 181.
  • To escalate any questions/concerns, or to inquire about admissions, special programs, school board-related matters or personal matters related to your teen not covered above, contact Mr. McKenzie, Principal, at extension 181.

Due to the volume of calls we receive, calendar obligations, and the general busyness of the office, it is sometimes difficult to respond to a call on the same day. If you leave a message please allow 24 hours at least before following up.

Please note that if you call to speak to a teacher who is teaching when you call, the teacher cannot leave class to take your call. However, you are welcome to leave a voice-mail message. Similarly, if you come to the school for a meeting without an appointment, we may not be able to see you. Of course, in the event of an emergency we will try to accommodate your request for a meeting as soon as possible, but it is always best to call ahead and check if the person you wish to see is available.

Before we know it the snow will start flying and inclement weather procedures will be in place. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @Trinity_Tigers for updates and information. Also watch CTV Barrie News and/or listen to local radio stations for updates about buses. Remember, even if buses are cancelled, the school remains open for student learning except in extreme weather conditions.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

God Bless,

Brian McKenzie
