End of Week 11
Published on Apr 27, 2018 18:17

Hi everyone,

Thank you to the parents who attended our recent Catholic School Community Council (aka Parent Council) meeting on Monday night. We discussed a few key items:

1. Growth: due to significant enrollment growth at the school, we will be adding six new teachers for September. As well, we will need to add new portable classrooms to accommodate all the students. Details on number and placement will be confirmed later this spring.

2. School Addition: growth will continue for the next several years, so plans are in the works for an addition to add new instructional space to the school. This is a multi-stage process that involves Ministry of Education funding, tendering, and construction and we are in the very early part of the process. Stay tuned for details!

3. School Technology Renewal: nowadays teachers and students rely on technology in and out of the classroom. Currently we have a large number of computers that are way past their Best Before date, and it is time to replace them. We are working with our Board ICT and Curriculum staff to identify a suitable replacement, and hope to begin purchasing this year. However, the cost of replacing all the outdated machines will approach $50,000. The school currently has some surplus funds available, but in order to raise the full amount we are planning a Family Pledge Drive. With about $45 per student we can meet our funding goal - less than the cost of one coffee per week. Further information will be forthcoming with details on how you can contribute. We plan to make it as easy as possible for you. We know you will support this worthy cause.

We have a few important events in May:

- There are still 10 spots available for our Geography field trip to Tobermory. This is a two day experience in Orienteering and Geographical Information Systems on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. Please contact Mr. Mainolfi if interested.

- Monday May 14th at 6pm we will be holding an information session for parents and students interested in learning more about the combined Grade 12 Religion/Holy Land Pilgrimage experience taking place next year. Students who participate will earn their grade 12 Religion credit through Continuing Education and take part in an incredible travel experience to Israel where they will walk in the steps of Jesus. Full details about itinerary and costs will be available at the meeting. We hope to see you there!

- The Holy Trinity the Social Justice Club is holding a clothing drive May 14 - 28. It's spring cleaning time so please round up and drop off all your old clothing items. We are striving to reach 2000 lbs worth of items for students to earn a free civvies day and freezies. Start spring cleaning Holy Trinity!

- The Green Team has arranged for an e-waste bin to be at the school from May 29 - June 19. You can drop off any electronics, from pocket calculators to big screen TV's. The bin will be open during school hours for your convenience.

- Catholic Education Week begins Sunday May 6. School activities include our annual Pilgrimage/Walk for Social Justice followed by a school mass at Holy Martyrs of Japan Church and an elementary school dance. It would help us out a great deal if you did not allow your teen to be absent from school on school mass day. Celebrating mass together as a community is a right we must not give away through neglect, especially now when Catholic education is under attack from many who would rather see one school system.

- Prom is coming up June 1st at the Paradise Banquet Hall in Vaughn.

- Graduation is June 28th and we plan to live-stream it via YouTube for family/friends who cannot attend in person. Stay tuned for additional information.

- Our uniform supplier, DGN Kilters, has a new mobile uniform van available. They will be here Friday May 4th and Friday May 18 from 11-4 for uniform sales.

And one more reminder that report cards will be sent home next week, probably Thursday. I will send a notification on the day they go home.

Enjoy this beautiful weekend!

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
