End of Week 7
Published on Mar 29, 2018 18:22

Hi everyone,

It was nice to see so many of you out at Parent Interviews last night, and I hope you had good conversations with your teens' teachers about their progress. It was also nice that it was still light when the evening ended. Spring and Daylight Saving Time is good!

We were very happy to host the Pierre Destine All Abilities Futsal tournament yesterday. Students from Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood, St. Joseph's Catholic Secondary School in Barrie, and St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie spent a fun day playing futsal, eating a delicious home-made lunch of calzones (thanks Mr. V's hospitality class) and they even had time to squeeze in a dance party! Congrats to St. Joe's Jaguars on their tournament win.

Reminder of the upcoming Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) taking place April 10, 2018. Teachers have been busily preparing students for this important day. Please note that students in grades 9, 11 and 12 (other than those rewriting the test) are on a delayed start for the day. There will be a regular a.m. bus run for the students writing the test, then a second run 3.5 hours later for the rest of the students and we will have four compressed periods in the afternoon. Please do not schedule appointments or excuse your teen from school that day as the OSSLT is a graduation requirement. There is no opportunity to rewrite it this year if they miss it.

We are happy to have enhanced functionality with our home-school communications, including custom voice messages and real-time attendance updates. Please be sure to listen to all the options when you receive a call from the school, especially for attendance calls.

At our most recent Catholic School Community Council meeting we discussed fundraising ideas as we look to replace our older and out-of-date computers in the school. We will have our next meeting on April 23rd at 6 pm in the library. The meeting is open to all parents. RSVP using this form. This works best on a computer rather than a phone.

In two weeks term 1 ends (on April 17th). This means the period order changes from 1,2,3,4 to 2,1,4,3. If your teen currently has a period 1 spare it will change to per. 2 starting April 18. The end of the term also means mid-term report cards. They will be sent home during the first week of May.

On behalf of the Holy Trinity Catholic High School staff, I wish you all a very happy and holy Easter with your families and friends. If you are travelling may you arrive safely.

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
Principal
