End of Week 3
Published on Sep 22, 2017 18:10

Hi everyone,

Sunny day
The glorious weather continues, making field trips, outdoor activities, sports and even the trek to and from school pleasant for everyone. As we begin the new fall season (starting today!) try to take a moment to reflect on the beauty and wonder of God's creation.

Some updates and reminders:

  • Parking lot procedures: thank you for assisting us with student safety by following the lot procedures. We are pleased to see that traffic has improved in the front lot. If you are picking up/dropping off in the back lot off Miller Park Drive, please be sure to drive in and turn left, then pull up to the end of the parking spaces before dropping off/collecting your teen cargo, otherwise cars back up onto the road creating a traffic hazard.
  • School Day E-Payment system: to date we have had a good number of parents register for Online Payments using School Day (htttp://www.schoolday.com) and we hope the rest of you will sign up as soon as possible. A letter with instructions was sent home with your teen, so if you have not received it, please remind him/her to pass it on to you. The registration only takes a few moments. Permission slips, payments, and even parent-teacher interviews are managed using this service. Don't miss out on opportunities! Sign up now!
  • Thursday September 28th our social justice group is attending WE Day in Toronto. This is a high-energy, exciting day that inspires and empowers our young people to make a difference in the world.
  • That evening our French students are attending a performance by Cirque de Soleil, Canada's world-renowned acrobatics troupe.
  • Friday September 29 is a PA Day. No school for Elementary or Secondary students. Teachers will be off-site attending various workshops and conferences.

Information from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

  • Over the course of the school year we will be mailing home a request to update school immunization records to those high school students whose records on file are not up to date.
  • Enhanced Online Immunization Reporting System: We have recently launched a new provincial online immunization reporting system known as ICON (Immunization Connect Ontario).  This system can be accessed at www.smdhu.org/immsonline.  Parents can use this system to update their child’s immunization record for public health. This system is a way for parents to securely send us their child’s updated immunization information 24/7. People can also use the ICON system to access a copy of their student’s immunization record, if the individual was born in 1991 or later.  Those born 1975 to 1990 who went to school in Simcoe County or Muskoka can contact the health unit directly to request a copy of their record. Those born before 1975 need to access their record through their health care provider.
  • Mandatory Immunization Education Session for Parents Requesting an Affidavit:  Effective September 1, 2017, any parent/guardian who wants to file a Statement of Conscience or Religious Belief form (affidavit) under the Immunizations of School Pupils Act (ISPA) for their child will need to complete an education session at the health unit. Any parents wanting to file an affidavit must contact the health unit at 705-721-7520 ext. 8827 or toll-free 1-877-721-7520 or visit our website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org The list of mandatory immunizations can be found here.

Information from the Board

  • Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC): The Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) has a mandate to ensure that all Catholic School Council Committees have representation with CPIC. As per the attached By-law 1: Parent Members, CSCC members can then select or select themselves to represent their Community of Schools within their area.  This may be up to 2 members per area. The attached application must be submitted to me by September 28.

Have a great weekend! Sunday's high with humidex will be in the high 30's/low 40's. Stay cool and be safe!
