End of Week 1
Published on Sep 8, 2017 18:04

Hi everyone,

Well, that's one week in the books already! We have had a very good startup to the year, and the students are already back into the routines and rhythms of school. Thank you for all your help and support as we launch into an exciting and enjoyable school year. A special shout out to all you grade 9 parents (especially the first timers!): this is the beginning of a new stage in your teen's life. The days are sometimes long, but the years fly by, and before you know it they'll be crossing the stage at graduation.

Thank you for your assistance with the pickup/drop-off procedures before and after school. The parking lots get very busy and we want to ensure everyone's safety. There is a municipal plan to realign our front entrance so that it doesn't open on to Melbourne St. We will keep you posted as to developments. In the meantime, we appreciate very much your patience and good humour in the lot in the morning and after school.

A couple of things are coming up on the school calendar. You can view the calendar here

1. Picture day is Tuesday September 12. School photos are necessary for student cards as well as our student information system, so please be sure your son/daughter is in attendance that day. Retakes will be on the 25th.

2. Our first PA Day of the school year will take place on Sept. 29. The school is closed and students can sleep in and do extra chores around the house that day.

3. Grade 9 Religion Retreat takes place Monday September 18th at Holy Martyrs of Japan Church, and Grade 9 Fun Day is September 20th in the a.m. followed by a school movie in the afternoon.

4. The French Department is organizing a Cirque de Soleil trip on Sept. 28th. Tickets are limited and first come-first served. Interested students should see Mr. McLaughlin or Mrs. Benvenuto. A number of staff and students are also attending We Day on the 29th in Toronto. Beginning as a single event nearly ten years ago, WE Day has evolved into a series of 19 stadium-sized events held across the United States, Canada, the UK and the Caribbean. This past year, 200,000 students attended WE Day and left inspired to create change both locally and globally.

4. Thanksgiving Monday is October 9th and our second PA Day of the school year will take place Friday October 13th. More chores. I'm sure the eaves troughs will need cleaning by then.

If you would like to be part of our Catholic School Community Council, please note that our first meeting is Monday September 18th at 6pm in the library. All are welcome. Please be sure to fill out and return the CSCC nomination form that we sent home day 1. If you need another copy you can print one here. If you are unsure of what being on CSCC entails, you can read the guide here.

This is just the tip of a very large iceberg! In addition we have sports teams, clubs, and of course tons of learning every day led by our outstanding teaching staff. Our tanks are full, our enthusiasm is high, and our passion runs deep, so we'll be sure to keep you abreast of all that is going on this year.

Thanks again for being a part of the Holy Trinity family!

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
