End of Week 17
Published on Jun 8, 2018 18:12

Hi everyone

We had a little excitement yesterday as there was police activity in Bradford. St. Angela Merici Catholic School, Chris Hadfield Elementary School and W.H. Day Elementary School were all placed in "Hold and Secure" while police located and arrested a suspect wanted in Barrie. Hold and Secure means that the students remain inside the building and the doors are locked. I was in direct contact with South Simcoe Police and they assured me that at no time was there any concern for our school and so a Hold and Secure order was not necessary. Contrary to rumours, Bradford District High School was not in lock down.

As I write this our girls' and boys' soccer teams are competing at OFSAA in Windsor. The boys have a 1-2 record so far, while the girls are 4-0! Playoffs start tonight and Championship rounds are tomorrow so keep both teams in your prayers!

After this week the pace slows down and students will concentrate on their last two weeks of classes. We have lots to finish before summer so please be sure your teen is attending every day on time. We know the nice weather is a distraction but students need to concentrate on preparing for final evaluations, including CCT's.

Students received their 2018-19 timetables this week. Teacher names are not on the timetables until September. Students wishing to make a timetable change must come down to guidance and get a course change form, have it signed by a parent, and returned before anything is done on our end. Similarly, a phone call asking for a change is insufficient -- we must have the signed course change form before we make any changes.

Reminder that if you have friends, relatives or new neighbours looking to register for school in September, now is the time! Please let them know they can call the school for a registration package for September.

Mark your calendars: we have confirmed that DGN Kilters will be here in the school for their annual road show and sale on August 20/21st. You can buy any new items and save the trip to Barrie.

Watch your e-mail as I'll be sending out the final exam schedule. It will include procedures and housekeeping items for your info as well. Remember that exams and CCT's are 30% of the final grade in most courses so students must be in attendance.

And finally, we will be mailing final report cards home the first week of July so you don't need to worry about coming in to pick them up.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Brian McKenzie
