End of Week 14
Published on May 18, 2018 18:09

Hi everyone

Another busy and successful week with sports, field trips, class projects and even a couple of fire drills!

Thanks to all parents for your ongoing efforts to keep us informed when your teen is absent from school. We are heading into the home stretch of the year when final assessments that comprise 30% of the final grades are completed. This includes Course Culminating Tasks (CCTs) and final exams. Please help us out by ensuring your teen is in school on time every day as we all want the best possible outcome for them.

The response to our Spring Clothing Drive has been great so far, and we are about half-way to our goal of 2000lb (900kg) of clothing. We have one week left so please get your donations in!

You have received a couple of notices from the school about voter registration in the upcoming municipal election (October 2018). It is very important that you be registered as a Catholic Board supporter so that you can vote for the trustee in the election. Please take a moment to confirm your status at voterlookup.ca. Your Voice. Your Vote. Make it Count!

A reminder that Grade 9 Math students will be writing the EQAO assessment on June 14th and 15th. While not a graduation requirement, it is the final exam for the grade 9 math course so we expect all students to complete it. Students who require accommodations due to an IEP will receive a letter outlining the school's strategy for supporting them. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Moniz.

Another gentle reminder about appropriate footwear in the school. We ask that students not wear flip-flops, thong sandals, slippies, or other similar footwear. We have already seen a number of students injured in slip/fall injuries due to the lack of tread on the bottom and the ease with which the sandals fall off their feet. Please be sure your teen is wearing shoes with a closed heel and a decent tread.

Friday June 1st our Prom is taking place at the Paradise Banquet Hall in Vaughn. We ask parents to ensure that your teen has a ride to/from the event as we cannot be responsible for their transportation. Please go over the expectations of the event, including the Sober Contract, with your teen. Police will be on hand, and students purses/bags are subject to inspection before admission. Students who, in the judgement of the staff chaperones, appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied admission and parents will be contacted for pickup as we will not permit them to drive home. We all want a safe and fun night for everyone!

Over the next couple of weeks we have students participating in GBSSA championships in tennis, soccer and track & field. Good luck and God bless our student athletes as they represent our school.

And Final Communication Letters will be mailed out on Wednesday May 30. This is our final informal communication about progress before exams. If you have concerns you may contact the teachers at any time.

I hope everyone has a fun, relaxing and safe Victoria Day weekend. If you have to travel, please take your time and arrive safely at your destination.

God bless,

Brian McKenzie
