End of Week 6
Published on Mar 23, 2018 18:14

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Spring! Yes, we are finally through the worst of the winter season and can expect the days to get warmer and the nights to get shorter. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful country.

This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as we prepare for Easter. That means next week-end is the Easter holiday long weekend. Students do not attend school on Friday March 30 or Monday April 2. I hope you all enjoy a happy and holy Easter with your family and friends.

Wednesday March 28th from 5-7:30 pm is Parent-Teacher Interview evening for Semester 2. Please sign up for 5 minute appointments using School-Day. Teacher locations are noted in there as well.

Our Spring sports schedule is off to a great start, and we have Girls Soccer, Track and Field, Ultimate Frisbee and Girls Softball teams competing. Our Boys' Soccer team is travelling to OFSAA in June so they too are playing in spring tournaments to get in shape for their big trip. Huge thanks to all our coaches for their time and dedication.

Starting Monday there will be a change to our daily attendance calls. We have added a new feature that will allow you to respond to the call and indicate the reason for your teen's absence from school. This will save you the hassle of making phone calls to the school, or receiving calls at work the day after an absence. Be sure to listen to the whole message and respond the prompts accordingly. Note that the prompt/reply will not work if the message goes to your voice mail -- it has to be from a live call.

Tuesday April 10 is the OSSLT day. Students in Grade 10 (and some in 11/12) will write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. As in past years, the day will have an altered timetable. Students writing the test will come to school at their regular time and write in the morning. The rest of the students will come for the afternoon and we will have 4 compressed time periods. Buses will run twice - once at normal time for the test-takers and a second run 3.5 hours later for everyone else. The afternoon bus run home will be at the normal time. The OSSLT is a graduation requirement for all students: any students who miss it on April 10 have to rewrite it next year. Please do not schedule appointments or make plans for your teens to be out of school that day if they are supposed to write it.

As we head into the warmer weather students will break out their spring and summer wardrobe. Please note that our dress code policy remains in effect and we have to ensure that students are dressed appropriately at all times. This includes Civvies Days. Revealing clothing, including ripped/distressed jeans, are not part of the dress code and students should not be wearing them to school. For safety reasons, flip flops or other open-backed sandals are also not permitted. We have had instances where students have fallen down stairs and been injured because of improper footwear. Please assist and support us with these dress code requirements.

Mid-term report cards will be out by the first week of May. Please be sure to ask your teens for their report cards and don't let them turn to pulp in the bottom of the backpack.

If your teen is in grade 12 and has not yet submitted Community Service Hour forms, please get them in as soon as possible. This is a graduation requirement, so any students who do not have a record of completion of 40 hours of community service will not graduate in June. Students whose forms are not in by Tuesday April 3rd will not appear on the graduate composite picture. Please don't let your teen miss out on graduation.

If you know of friends, relatives, or neighbours with high-school aged teens who will be new to the Bradford community over the summer, please encourage them to get in touch with us as soon as possible for September registration. They do not need to wait until August. Our enrollment is going up rapidly so it's important for us to plan for September! A reminder that Holy Trinity Catholic High School is open access, which means all students, Catholic or Non-Catholic, may attend.

And finally, it's not too early to remind parents and students that final evaluations and exams take place in June, and students are required to write them as part of their courses. Summer vacations must wait until exams are over as we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate students who miss their CCT's and exams. Please do not plan for your teen to be away from June 15-27th or they risk getting 0 (zero) on their final evaluations which are worth 30% of their final grades. If there are unusual or extenuating circumstances beyond your control please get in touch with the school as soon as possible to discuss.

Enjoy the sunny weather and God bless!
