End of Week 9
Published on Nov 3, 2017 18:06

Hi everyone,

We are rapidly approaching mid-term. Please note that starting November 8 we are in Term 2. This means that our period order changes from its regular rotation of 1, 2, 3, 4 to 2, 1, 4, 3. We do this to accommodate students and teachers involved in co-curricular activities to minimize the number of missed periods for games, tournaments, etc. This also means mid-term report cards are coming out soon. We will be sending them home during the week of Nov. 20th. Please be sure to ask your teen for the report card and please be sure to sign and return the parent form.

November 17th will be our 3rd PA Day of semester 1. Once again, students get the day off while staff attend workshops/conference activity dedicated to improving student achievement. Watch Twitter for pics of our staff hard at work that day (follow us @Trinity_Tigers).

Parent Expo Virtual - What Comes After High School? is taking place November 16th, that's just two weeks! Parents (and students), don't miss this opportunity to celebrate Involved Parenting, and to learn and to grow together!

Here is the schedule of the various presentations, the topics and info about the speakers. You'll see its priceless information for families that are on the path to making this important transition after high school. We discuss various roads that are open to students and how to choose, we discuss finances, we talk about life skills needed and we even explore tools for special needs students.

This event is FREE for everyone, and accessible to anyone with a computer/handheld device and an internet connection. Parents, educators and students can login from a cafe, library, homes, offices or school. The event is free but registration is required to secure a spot, so that our tech team is ready for the right numbers on the day of.

Please make plans to attend our Mental Health at All Ages night on Tuesday, November 7th. All parents are welcome. Keynote speaker Dr. Patrick Carney will bring useful and timely information on supporting your teen's positive mental health. There will be breakout sessions for different age groups, and the school is providing childcare/babysitting services as well.

The school is also hosting Teens Learn to Drive on November 9th. This interactive workshop for gr. 10 and 12 students introduces students to the importance of safe driving. Thanks to Mr. De Oliveira for organizing.

The following week our grade 9's will participate in our Truth and Consequences Workshop Day. Teens will hear from police, Health Unit nurses, paramedics, and other professionals about the dangers of drug abuse, alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted infections and other risky behaviours.

Tuesday Nov. 21 we will be hosting the MADD Canada kickoff. Police and emergency services from across Simcoe County will be here with media to start the annual MADD Canada campaign to combat impaired driving. We will also be taking part the following week in The Copper Cup with Bradford High and South Simcoe Police.

Parents and students are invited to join Save-A-Life CPR Day. County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and Heart & Stroke Foundation are offering a FREE Heartsaver training course. See the flyer for details.

Grade 9's are attending a trip to see Romeo and Juliet on November 24th. As you can see, the month is jammed with activity!

All the best for the weekend.
